Train load was estimated by visually counting the number of passengers
In the past, it took a team of six to manually count the number of passengers on board the NSEWL trains with one person assigned to each train car. The trainload data helped with the scheduling of trains in order to ensure a comfortable ride. Today, one staff is all it takes to conduct train observation. Additionally, train schedules and data from fare gates are analysed to determine the estimated number of passengers in each train.
